Eco-technology is a set of techniques that ensure the use of natural resources in a clean way. Its purpose? To satisfy human needs with the minimum possible environmental impact, by manipulating nature and its resources to take advantage of their positive effects.
They operate under specific conditions, and are, in short, a hybrid system with a non-living part (technology) and a living part (the ecosystem).
We distinguish between two concepts:
- Eco-technologies: the science that uses technological advances in order to improve the environment.
- Ecotechnique: the application of the practice of eco-technology, technological tools that offer a number of environmental advantages over traditional ones.
Among the different eco-techniques that can be found, we can distinguish:
- Solar panels: made up of solar cells (composed of crystalline silicon or gallium arsenide), which are responsible for converting solar radiation into electricity.
- Biodigesters: use organic waste, especially animal and human excrement, to produce fertiliser and biogas.
- Rainwater harvesting: collects water that precipitates naturally, and through a filtration process, retains all the impurities that the water may contain and then transfers it to storage for distribution.
- Green roofs: spaces to achieve certain environmental benefits.
- Green walls: a wall of plants growing vertically, especially on a wall.
- Ecological lighting: LED lights stand out in this aspect, as they are much more efficient and environmentally friendly.
The main advantages of using eco-technology are:
- It increases efficiency in the choice of energy sources.
- It develops and perfects cleaner processes and products.
- Controls the impact on ecosystems.
