Digitalisation and sustainability

Digitalización y sostenibilidad

Technology has become a fundamental aspect of our daily lives, transforming and modifying the way we live, consume, work and even the way we entertain ourselves. The digitalisation of society is a reality, and in the business world, too.

This global digitalisation can have great benefits for companies, such as:

  • Increased company productivity
  • Improving and streamlining internal processes
  • Improved customer experience
  • Improved environmental impact

This last point is the one we are going to emphasise the most in the following text, as business sustainability is one of the most worrying aspects of today's world; the climate emergency is a reality and companies must become actors of change.

Combining digitalisation and sustainability is the best option to obtain greater efficiency with less environmental impact (reducing the use of paper or transport, sustainable materials...).

Therefore, companies that have a sustainability-based strategy should drive it towards digitalisation. According to a report by Accenture: "companies with a dual transformation strategy - based on a combination of digital technologies and sustainability - are 2.5 times more likely to rank among the top-performing companies".

Which are the steps to initiate this strategy?

  • Change in corporate culture: Digitalisation should not be seen as just another department in the company, but as a concept that affects the company as a whole.
  • Internal analysis: What is the state of our company? Knowing our strengths and weaknesses is essential to start this transformation.
  • Establish objectives: They must be quantifiable and achievable.
  • Analysis of solutions: Which tools should we use to achieve our objectives, in this case, which suppliers should we choose.
  • Contracting and integration of changes: Once we have the suppliers that provide us with the greatest confidence and service in relation to our new strategy, we must also begin to integrate the changes in our organisation (waste management and recycling, reduction in the use of consumables...).
